The Beechworth Arts Council is delighted to present a Writers, Readers and Poets’ weekend on the 11th and 12th of February.
The W.R.A.P weekend is filled with workshops at the Beechworth Railway Station Youth Centre on both days and public readings commencing at 10.30 Saturday on the Post Office Steps, and then moving to the Beechworth Bakery balcony at 1pm. This will be followed Upstairs at the Bakery at 5pm by “A Short History of Love Poetry” presented by Corinna Box, “The Odour of Sanctity” presented by Amy Brown and then Dr.Amanda Johnson will present selections of her works. We finish up on Saturday with “Poetry in the Pub” ($15 cover charge) from 8pm till late at Tanswell’s Hotel.
Sunday morning at 10.30am at Hotel Nicholas is a Poets’ Breakfast ($15) where our master of ceremonies will be Professor Kevin Brophy, head of the Creative Writing department at Melbourne University. We then move to “Poetry on the Platform” at the Beechworth Railway Station Youth Centre with open readings until 3pm. Those aspiring (but perhaps timid) writers have the opportunity to post it to our Poetry Pin Board on the station platform throughout the weekend.
